Meet the Press host Chuck Todd had some tough love for his fellow MSNBC panelists in the wake of Tuesday night’s GOP wave, explaining that President Obama must either abandon his pursuit of executive amnesty for illegal immigrants or risk an all-out “war” that could lead to a constitutional crisis.

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow laid into Republican strategist Steve Schmidt’s contention that after tonight’s clear repudiation, a unilateral White House push for amnesty would constitute “Caesarism.”

But Todd pushed back. “I hear you, that legally he can do some of the things he wants to do here,” he told Maddow. “I think politically, tonight? It put an end to it. I think it would be a provocative act politically.”

“The president is going to know that if he does this, he is starting a political war in Washington between the White House and a Republican Congress,” Todd continued. “I understand what you’re saying, that you can be technically legally correct. It can just start a political war in Washington.”
