I have to say, save for National Review itself, the CRB is probably my favorite publication right now. I’ve always loved the long form book review (always my favorite thing about The New Republic). And the CRB seems to have the genre nailed. Some might not like how it reviews books without a zealous regard for pub dates. Each issue tends to have reviews of several books which are now on the remainder shelves. But I love that. If you haven’t gotten around to buying a book yet, why should it matter how “late” the review is? And if you’ve read the book already, a long and thoughtful analysis will be no less interesting. Anyway, there are several excellent pieces in the latest issue (including a piece by Ramesh). But I thought William Voegeli’s was particularly interesting. I had only vaguely heard of A Nation of Rebels before, but now I think I’ll try to get my hands on it.
