Classification of British Newspapers

A reader reminds me of this gem from the classic BritCom Yes, Prime Minister: Jim (Hacker, PM)– The Mirror is read by the people who think that they run the country. The Times is read by the people who really do run the country. The Financial Times is read by the people who own the country. The Guardian is read by the people who think that they ought to be running the country. The Morning Star [the communist daily] is read by the people who think that another country ought to be running the country. And the Telegraph is read by the people who think that they already do. Sir Humphrey– Pray tell, what of the readers of the Sun? Bernard– They don’t care who runs the country, as long as she’s got big t*ts.

John Derbyshire — Mr. Derbyshire is a former contributing editor of National Review.
