Cleland’s History

Former Sen. Max Cleland (D., Ga.) sends out a fundraising e-mail, repeating the myth that he was compared to Osama bin Laden in the 2002 election, simply because the terrorist made an appearance in a famous television ad against him.

In fact, Cleland lost in Georgia in 2002 because he voted to de-fund the Boy Scouts and was reliably pro-abortion (the subject of his opponent’s radio ads at the time). The television ad against Cleland also made the legitimate point that he was standing with labor unions to delay creation of the Department of Homeland Security shortly after 9/11.
