The Club for Growth on Huckabee (and Me)

I’m really not sure what Nachama Soloveichik of the Club for Growth has against me, or why the club would want to invent some bizarre fight between economic and social conservatives. My post, suggesting that some criticisms of Huckabee were over-the-top, was not directed particularly at the club. When I have a disagreement with the club, I generally say so explicitly. Nor was I saying that people shouldn’t criticize Huckabee, period: I’ve made plenty of criticisms myself. Finally, the notion that I’m not a good economic conservative (or that Grover Norquist has endorsed Huckabee) is sort of demented. I’ll stack my record of supporting free trade, school choice, personal accounts for Social Security, etc., against Soloveichik’s any day. If the club wants to attack its friends, it should at least have better aim.

What Will Trump Do?

R.I.P. Ruth Bader Ginsburg. As a matter of pure self-interested calculation, I would expect Donald Trump to try to get a new Supreme Court justice confirmed before the election. That will provide exactly the kind of galvanizing fight that he thrives on, and he has more to gain from giving Republicans something ... Read More
