Donna Brazile was always pleasant in our limited interactions – up until last night, when she blocked me for the unforgivable sin of reminding her of her previous praise for FBI Director James Comey. I guess there’s still a lot of Stalinist airbrushing of history to be done.
Now, upon the revelation from WikiLeaks that Brazile helped pass on a second CNN debate/town hall forum question to the Clinton campaign, CNN’s announced she won’t be coming back to the network after her stint at the Democratic National Committee ends. Even though she was collecting a paycheck from the network, Brazile seemed to think her real job was to help Hillary.
Brazile is easy to like in personal interactions, but when push comes to shove, she was willing to cheat and lie to help her side win. It’s fair to ask whether political consultants with strong, loyal ties to their old clients and friends should be given access to anything sensitive in a news organization.
CNN is, as you might guess, irked:
Her departure was announced Monday amid fresh revelations that she sent questions to Hillary Clinton’s campaign in advance of a CNN debate and a CNN-TV One town hall.
In a statement, CNN said it was “completely uncomfortable with what we have learned about her interactions with the Clinton campaign while she was a CNN contributor.”
CNN said it “never gave Brazile access to any questions, prep material, attendee list, background information or meetings in advance of a town hall or debate.”
Well, somebody did. The question now is, who helped Brazile? Who else at CNN thought the real purpose of the broadcast was to help Hillary Clinton look good?
Those with long memories will recall this isn’t the first time Brazile had to resign after crossing an ethical line.
