CNN: White House Pressuring Insurance Companies to Stay Mum on Obamacare Rollout

The White House is pressuring insurance companies to keep quiet about the rollout of Obamacare, CNN’s Drew Griffin reported last night.

“Basically, if you speak out, if you are quoted, you are going to get a call from the White House—pressure to be quiet. Several sources tell me . . . that insurance executives are being told to keep quiet,” Griffin said.

Griffin said the companies are being told not to talk about the “clarifications” to the Affordable Care Act, made after the law’s passage, which are forcing companies to drop plans that don’t offer coverage that meets the law’s requirements.

“[The executives] feel defenseless against the White House PR team” and fear retribution, Griffin said.

White House press secretary Jay Carney pushed back against the story, telling Griffin that the accusation was “preposterous and inaccurate.”
