It’s kind of a big deal, if you’re a conservative. Among those who actually know of Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), they may be as likely to say, “What the —-?” as they are to vote for John McCain. But it could help — and it could help McCain on Feb. 5 in Oklahoma, where he and Huckabee are running close.
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), who is often Coburn’s Senate partner in pork-busting, is a Romney guy. He shot back at Coburn:
“Illegal immigration and tax relief may not be big issues in Oklahoma, but they are here. Thankfully the people of South Carolina will decide for themselves who will stop illegal immigration and rebuild our economy.”
If DeMint sounds unhappy, it might be because Coburn made the endorsement in DeMint’s hometown of Greenville.
