Coburn: I’d ‘Rather See Rates Go Up’ Than Eliminate Loopholes

Oklahoma senator Tom Coburn said earlier today that he would rather see tax rates go up on top earners than raise revenues by eliminating loopholes and deductions, as House Republicans have proposed doing. “Personally, I know we have to raise revenue, I don’t really care which way we do it,” Coburn said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “Actually, I would rather see the rates go up than do it the other way because it gives us a greater chance to reform the tax code and broaden the base in the future.” The Republican senator, known to many as “Dr. No” for a litany of votes against legislation he considers unconstitutional, said Obama and Boehner are essentially “arguing over semantics.”
