The Corner

One word about the final installment of our interview with Mark Steyn, now available on the homepage: At the end of the interview, he sings a bit of “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” That’s at no extra charge. How often does an interview about impending disaster end with a song? That’s why I call Mark, as I have for years, “the spoonful of sugar that helps the collapse of Western civilization go down.”

By the way, “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” was written by Frank Loesser — half-brother of Arthur Loesser. Arthur was a famous pianist (classical) and, in particular, a famous teacher. A dear friend of mine studied with him. Arthur also did a lot of writing (prose writing, I mean).

Do you know his self-description? Pretty witty: “the evil of two Loessers.”
