I finally caught it last night. I have to say I was disappointed (which was his word of the day). I think Colbert is hilarious. And I thought the writing was very good. But, the Colbert Report is essentially the Daily Show — with Steve Colbert. It had its moments, but overall Colbert’s strengths aren’t as the host of a show, particularly a show with a very familiar format. It was kind of like having a spin-off of M*A*S*H where some of the characters go off and set up a military hospital in Korea and get into some hijinx and build a still in their tent.
