Colin Kaepernick Could Have Been 2016’s Sister Souljah

In the course of the Obama years, Democrats stopped believing they had to do defensive cultural politics. They couldn’t even bear to bring themselves to say “all lives matter.” But if a Bill Clinton circa 1992 had been running this year, Colin Kaepernick would have been ripe for the Sister Souljah treatment, to wit, “I appreciate his passion, but he’s an extremely privileged person and the very least he can do for this country is to stand the hell up for the National Anthem.” No Democrat dared say such a thing, and when Ruth Bader Ginsburg of all people did, she immediately had to back down.
