Cory Gardner is up three points in the latest poll out of Colorado, this one from Public Policy Polling. Gardner, who along with Iowa’s Joni Ernst is the candidate Republicans are perhaps most impressed with this cycle, has led Democrat Mark Udall in nine out of the last ten polls.
A look at the poll’s internals, available here, reveals something interesting: President Obama isn’t popular in Colorado — his approval rating stands at 41 percent — but Mark Udall is even less popular. His approval rating is underwater by 15 points, with 37 percent who say they approve of his job performance and 52 percent who say they disapprove.
Udall, of course, hasn’t had a great week or a great campaign, jokingly calling himself “brain dead” in an interview with a local news station over the weekend after he couldn’t come up with three books that had influenced him.
In Colorado, at least, maybe it’s the president who has to worry about associating himself with the Senate Democrat, not vice versa.
