Completely, Utterly Illegal

President Joe Biden, with Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, speaks about administration plans to forgive federal student loan debt at the White House in Washington, D.C., August 24, 2022. (Leah Millis/Reuters)

“This story could’ve been concocted in a laboratory to annoy me.” Charlie is spitting nails on today’s edition of The Editors over Biden’s completely illegal move to forgive student-loan debt.

“There is no legal case, and everybody knows that. And there is no case for doing this beyond people whom the Democrats now consider to be their base, people they need to show up in November, people who are close to the president, people who are close to our elite institutions, people who are close to the universities themselves.” Charlie makes it clear how this is completely unconstitutional and that these people are exploiting the system “to push the president of the United States to steal between half a trillion and a trillion dollars of money that was not appropriated by Congress.”

On the political side of the issue, Rich points out how this is a play from the Democrats to “gin up” votes in November. Maddy agrees, saying this is “another example of Biden putting short-term interests and the interests of radicals ahead of long-term interests.”

Finally, Rich ducks for cover as MBD launches into Anthony Fauci, who just announced his retirement. Fauci is making the media rounds, collecting plaudits and praise, and Michael takes the opportunity to highlight the doctor’s hypocrisy. “There is not a river wide enough for this elf to be tossed over,” he says. “Anthony has hurt public health in such a dramatic way over the course of this pandemic by being so baldly political.”

Maddy balances out the conversation, saying, “Look, I would not have wanted to have that job . . . there was so much uncertainty, especially early on. I basically separate Fauci’s mistakes into two categories: One is the forgivable mistakes . . . but the more egregious things is the mendacity and the reluctance to take seriously the origin of the coronavirus. . . . And then of course, there’s just the arrogance of the guy.” She completely agrees with Michael, and says, “He should be put in the hot seat.”
