Congressional R.I.P.

From Boehner’s office:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement today on the passing of Rep. Julia Carson (D-IN):

“Congresswoman Carson was a humble and passionate advocate for those she served in the city of Indianapolis and for all those struggling for equality and opportunity.  And with that in mind, she will long be remembered for her work in leading the House to award the Congressional Gold Medal to an American icon, Rosa Parks, in 1999.   Julia will be dearly missed, and my thoughts and prayers are with her family and her constituents at this difficult hour.”

NOTE: Rep. Carson was first elected to serve Indiana’s 7th District in 1996.  Prior to her election to Congress, she served as a Center Township trustee for six years and in the Indiana general assembly for 18 years.
