Conservative Groups Okay ‘Targeted Strikes’ Strategy

The Hill notes this morning that conservative “outside groups” including FreedomWorks, Heritage Action, and Club for Growth, are likely to back a “targeted strikes” strategy on Obamacare sought by GOP leadership:

“I think everyone is taking a step back, to be honest,” said FreedomWorks Executive Vice President Adam Brandon, who frequently talks with other major groups like Heritage Action.

“Everyone is in communication, and we’re just asking: What is the best way to accomplish our ultimate goal? There’s no daylight between us on repealing the law, but tactics and strategy are important.”

The strategy itself is not new. In late July as he was attempting to ward off talk of a government shutdown, Speaker John Boehner told colleagues, “We’ve got a strategy” on Obamacare, describing it as “ a series of well-placed, targeted strikes that will ultimately dissolve the Obamacare coalition and topple this trainwreck of a law.”

Included in that plan: voting on bills to delay the individual mandate, which 22 Democrats voted for in defiance of Nancy Pelosi. Now, the Hill notes, Republicans are discussing passing such a bill again as well as legislation to let people stay on their current health-care plans under Obamacare.
