That Conservative Statement, Con’t

Most of the seven to 10 million immigrants now in this country illegally are here to stay, I figure, and we’ve therefore got to come up with one way or another of coping with them. Bush’s policy strikes me as a reasonable first approximation. But Derb and Ramesh have convinced me that no policy on the illegal immigrants who are already here can succeed—or even rise to the level of coherence—unless it’s coupled with a policy for preventing still more illegals from joining them. (Gary Becker agrees, by the way, as I learned when I had a cup of coffee with him here at the Hoover Institution the other day.)

All of which means?

All of which means that I think the statement in yesterday’s WSJ was a stinker.
