Senate Foreign Relations Committee ranking member Bob Corker “could not have been more dismayed” by the United States’ lack of support for the Syrian opposition, and warned that the recent agreement with Russia doesn’t make matters any better.

“I think the opposition views this agreement as a setback,” the Tennessee Republican said on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday. “We certainly have not done what we need to do.”

Corker called on the U.S. to further aid the vetted, moderate opposition through equipment and training. Senate Armed Services Committee chair Carl Levin, who appeared on Face the Nation with Corker, agreed but also stated that Assad may make it a condition that the U.S. no longer support the opposition before complying with the Russia agreement.
