From a Marine:
Jonah, I am a Marine who recently deployed to Iraq and away from my family, The Corner, my house, my truck, and most of the things that me happy in life. After being aboard my base for a few days, I was struck with what a god forsaken desert this place is with few of the comforts of home. Then, while visiting a “porta-john” on my base, I read some of the graffiti that people tend to write in such places. It said, “Pirates make Ninjas walk the plank.” Had I not been a daily reader of The Corner, the comment would have been lost on me. Instead, it made me smile to think of the cultural education that I have been receiving on The Corner, and it made me smile to think of one my daily diversions that I enjoy so much when I am at home.
