Cornyn Looks to 2012

Washington — Can GOP senators who voted against the earmark ban count on the National Republican Senatorial Committee to defend them in 2012?

Sen. John Cornyn (R., Texas), NRSC chairman, tells NRO that “all incumbents need to be prepared for primaries.”

“It would be a bad idea to depend on anybody other than yourself to help in a primary,” Cornyn says. “Our job is mainly to pick up seats. My hope would be that our incumbents will be prepared and able to (run in a primary) without financial assistance from the NRSC.”
