Senator John Cornyn (R., Texas), whose border-security amendment to the Gang of Eight’s immigration-reform bill was rejected last week, announced on Monday that he would oppose the measure offered by senators Bob Corker (R., Tenn.) and John Hoeven (R., N.D.). The amendment, which has been approved by Senator Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) and the White House, is seen by many as the key to acheiving the Gang of Eight’s goal of 70 votes for passage.
In a Facebook post, Cornyn dismissed the amendment, saying that the “same tired approach of crafting a piece of legislation that does nothing more than throw money at the problem simply won’t cut it.”
