Cory Booker lied to New Jersey voters on Friday. During a Senate candidate debate, Democratic nominee and Newark mayor, Cory Booker, told voters that he “support[s], when it comes to a woman’s right to choose, the law of the land as it is right now.”
The Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, and the Hyde Amendment, which prohibit federal funding of abortion, are part of the law of the land Booker said he supports. According to his answers on the questionnaires of Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America, it is an outright lie to suggest he supports maintaining those laws.
In a private “endorsement memo” to America’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood — leaked via an open Google group — Booker said: “I oppose the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act and the Supreme Court’s dramatic break from precedent in upholding it.”
Similarly, Booker received coaching from NARAL Pro-Choice American on how to best answer their questionnaire item on taxpayer funding of abortion. NRO’s Eliana Johnson outlined how NARAL advised the Booker campaign that his original answer to their questionnaire did not demonstrate sufficient support for forcing taxpayers to pay for abortion.
Booker is being deliberately dishonest on the question of abortion.
