Kind of sleepy, scanning the news hurriedly, I saw this headline: “Cuban Fined $100,000 for Comments on LeBron.” I’m thinking, “What kind of Cuban has that kind of money — outside the highest echelons of the nomenklatura, that is? And why is he being fined? And why is he being referred to by his nationality? Is this a Cuban American?” It pays to read the stories, not just the headlines: “The [NBA] fined Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban $100,000 Saturday for comments made about free-agent-to-be LeBron James that violated the league’s anti-tampering rules.” Ah.
