The Credulous Jimmy

Ever since Israel launched its offensive against Hamas in Gaza I’ve been waiting for Jimmy Carter’s inevitable op-ed blaming and deploring Israel for defending itself. It showed up this morning in the Washington Post, a few days late, but Jimmy is in his 80s now. (Or perhaps he was waiting for yesterday’s ultimate power lunch at the White House, where I am sure he regaled his fellow members of the Presidents’ Club with a preview of his latest Middle East insights.) All Hamas wants, says the Credulous Jimmy, is a comprehensive cease-fire that includes the West Bank as well as Gaza. Right: And all Iran wanted in 1979 was to show its legendary Persian hospitality to our embassy staff.
