Come to Central Texas in August and watch the Mexican workers line up at dawn on street corners for day work — usually a long day of manual labor in the heat. Even Texans predisposed to bias against “illegals” see this every day and it makes an impression. Plus it’s not just unskilled workers seeking the American dream; wherever you look, you will see contributions from “recently arrived” tradesmen, craftsmen, artisans, etc. Most Texans get it.
