Cruz References Star Wars: ‘Mike Lee, I Am Your Father’

Supporters of defunding Obamacare are following in the footsteps of the Star Wars heroes, Ted Cruz said on the Senate floor this morning. The Texas senator revealed his fondness for the sentiment of “rebellion against oppression” stems from his love for the movie franchise.

Cruz portrayed those senators who have joined him on the floor as the Rebel Alliance who stood tall in the face of the Galactic Empire, which he characterized the Washington establishment as. “I wondered if at some point we were going to see a tall gentleman in a mechanical breathing apparatus come forward and say in a deep voice, ‘Mike Lee, I am your father,’” Cruz jokingly said in reference to Darth Vader. “Just like in the Star Wars movies, the Empire will strike back, but at the end of the day I think the Rebel Alliance — I think the people — will prevail.”
