Easley, S.C. — Ted Cruz declined to wade in to the latest campaign trail dust up Thursday, opting not to comment on the pope’s condemnation of Donald Trump.
“Listen, that’s between Donald and the pope. I’m not gonna get in the middle of that. I’ll leave it to the two of them to work it out,” Cruz told reporters outside of Mutt’s BBQ Restaurant here.
Cruz has made his faith a hallmark of his campaign trail pitch, particularly in South Carolina where he hopes to woo evangelicals.
The pope, in a press conference earlier today, questioned Trump’s faith, saying: “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not about building bridges, is not Christian.” Pope Francis said, when asked about Trump.
