Rich, that Robert Reich quote contains multitudes. Among the litany of targets for “angry right-wing populists” are groups too amorphous to be identified with any verifiable specificity, e.g. liberals, intellectuals, coastal elites; and groups that indicate he baselessly assumes the worst motives imaginable for his political opponents, e.g. gays, blacks, Jews. But the most telling item is that Reich is apparently worried about a conservative uprising against “crypto socialists.” Heaven forfend! Again, it’s not all that possible to positively identify anyone with that ridiculous appellative, but if attacking those who are secretly promoting socialism is a crime in Robert Reich’s America, he’s going to lock me up and throw away the key.
