Peter: Happy to hear about Hoeven. When I think about North Dakota this year, though, I think of a lost opportunity: Democratic senator Byron Dorgan should have been beatable, with the right candidate. And several potential candidates were available, including former governor Schaeffer. But none of them entered the race, and the last poll I saw had Dorgan being re-elected with 71 percent. In a year with Bush on the top of the ticket, he should have had a Thune-style challenger. Maybe Hoeven for Senate in 2010?
