The Corner

In Dallas

I was just sitting at my desk here at the Dallas Morning News office downtown when I heard a loud noise on the street below. I went out on the fourth-floor terrace to see what was going on. Hundreds of high school students were pouring out of the trains, and into the streets, waving Mexican flags and marching on city hall. They had taken over the street. This is still happening as I write this. No police were anywhere to be seen, at least for five minutes (they just arrived a moment ago). It’s a wonder they didn’t get hit by a car. They’re cheering, ecstatic even. I wonder how big these protests are in the city? Will these kids face any kind of disciplinary action for what they’ve done – leaving school, marching in downtown streets, stopping traffic, etc.? Or do we have consequences for breaking the law in the name of defending illegal immigration anymore?
