From a reader:
As a rule, I detest hair-splitting, but on occasion certain subjects demand a high degree of scrutiny. I’m referring of course to the all-important expletive “DAGNABBIT,” which you have consistently misspelled. Alas, I had hoped to prove my point by a simple Google search. However, both spellings appear in roughly equal numbers. Therefore, to authenticate my claim, I’ll refer you to all the old western movies in which authorities on the word like Walter Brennan, John Wayne, Slim Pickens, et.al. repeatedly pronounce this word as “DAGnabbit.” Until I saw the word on your Corner blogs, I had NEVER heard it pronounced this way. Like the Derb, I am a C-O-N-S-E-R-V-A-T-I-V-E and therefore like my traditions preserved in their original garb. Andy Devine must be turning in his grave, dagnabbit. Perhaps a poll of your readers could resolve this point.
