Daniels: ‘People have recoiled’

Mark Halperin asks the Indiana governor about President Obama’s management skills:

Daniels: “I personally wouldn’t fault the president or the administration on management grounds as I understand your question. I have had a close enough look to tell you the federal government is basically unmanageable. Personally I don’t think the president should spend a whole lot of time trying to manage it. He doesn’t have enough days for that. I think that it is results or the lack of them and the extremism of the program that has characterized this administration. The American people tend to be people of the center and what has gone on the last year and a half has stunned people in the extremism of its commitment to what could be called statist principles. And I think that’s the biggest issue I see. People have recoiled from this. Yes it didn’t work, which only confirmed I think the suspicion of a lot of folks that it couldn’t work, that government, massive spending on government is a mistake now and it’s a mistake in terms of the debt it’s loading on to our future and they’re not surprised that it didn’t work and they’re not interested in more of it.”
