The debate over immigration reform is not about policy, New York Times columnist David Brooks said Sunday on Meet the Press.
After Heritage Action president Michael Needham spoke about a number of policy concerns he had with respect to the immigration debate, Brooks interjected, saying: “I don’t think it’s about policy.”
“It’s about who runs the Republican party,” Brooks said. ”Do the leaders who want to have a long-term future, a presidential, national future as a multi-racial party, do they run the party, or does Mike [Needham] run the party? And the truth is, Mike runs the party.”
