David Brooks’s False Alternatives

Brooks’s latest column has already been much discussed around here, but I don’t think anyone has commented on these lines: “If voters think Nancy Pelosi is the biggest threat to their children’s prosperity, they will hire Perry. If they think competition from Chinese and Indian workers is the biggest threat, they will hire Romney.” If I had to rank these “threats,” I’d put Pelosi (and what she stands for) ahead of competition from Asian workers. But I’d put a lot of other threats, such as runaway entitlements and the collapse of marriage, ahead of both.
