D.C. United, Washington D.C.’s Major League Soccer franchise, will team up with the District to help get residents to sign up for its health-care exchange that begins enrollment next month. The team will promote the exchange, which is called DC Health Link, by having a presence on the field and during pre-game tailgates, as well as a public address announcement.
The Washington Times reports that officials reached out to D.C. United because of its younger, minority fan base, “making this an important avenue to reach uninsured/underinsured populations.”
“This partnership will help us inform a key group of District residents that can be hard to reach about new opportunities to obtain health insurance,” the chair of the exchange’s board said. A White House deputy press secretary took to Twitter to celebrate the news:

D.C. United will begin its promotion on October 4, three days after the exchange opens.
D.C. United is the second professional sports franchise to announce a partnership with one of the law’s state exchanges. Last month, the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens said they would promote Maryland’s exchange.
