The Supreme Court won’t hear a case about the legality of the team name of the Washington Redskins. I’m not unsympathetic to the claim that “Redskins” is an insult, especially with the way they’re playing this year. Much of this is in the eye of the beholder. (The “Deadskins” did win yesterday, but what group of people would want to be affiliated with an NFL team that’s 3-6?) Yet I’m also a defender of the practice of using Indian symbols in sports, where they are usually tributes to martial courage.
