Debt Ceiling: Tough and Tougher

Those look like our options. But which one is tough, and which is tougher? We report, you decide. Yesterday I posted on Spengler’s brief in favor of the McConnell plan. Today, Claire Berlinski has a sympathetic take on Spengler over at Ricochet. Contrast that with the line in the sand drawn by Steven Hayward over at Powerline. The interesting thing is that Hayward largely concedes that Spengler’s scenario may play out. That would be tough, he thinks, but not as bad as the demoralizing effects of giving in. We’ve come to a pretty pass when either option spells this much potential trouble for the GOP. Yet that, apparently, is where we are.
