Dem. Rep Changes Twitter Picture to Trayvon Martin

Democratic representative Karen Bass changed her Twitter avatar to a picture of a young Trayvon Martin in her latest show of solidarity with the Florida teen.

The morning after Saturday night’s verdict, the California congresswoman called the Zimmerman’s acquittal “devastating” on ABC’s This Week. Since then, she has taken to Twitter to continue expressing her discontent with the verdict.

“We cannot be silent when a teenager is needlessly profiled, harassed & gunned down by those who choose to take law into their own hands,” reads one tweet; “We must keep working tirelessly to end racial profiling & ensure that the application of the law is equitable, just & fair for everyone,” she said in another.

Bass’s district is in the Los Angeles area, which has been the site of some of the most violent protests following the case’s verdict. On her Twitter account, she pleaded with residents to “not have violence” and “stay calm.”
