Representative Barbara Lee (D., Calif.) questioned whether her Republican colleagues were properly living out their faith when the House passed reform to SNAP programs last week.

“Many people on the other side who voted for this are people of faith,” Lee said on MSNBC over the weekend. “They go to church on Sunday and they pray, yet here on Thursday, what do they do? They move to cut and take away food from hungry people.” Host Karen Finney agreed with Lee, claiming that the pope would agree that it was “mean-spirited.”

The House’s reform included a $40 billion reduction, which would take place over the course of a decade in an effort to weed out fraud and abuse.
