Apparently oblivious to the fact that the impending sequester of $44 billion is about to produce catastrophes of Biblical proportions, House Democrats, led by Barbara Lee (D., Ca.), have introduced legislation to create a Department of Peacebuilding, as Nathaniel noted below.
H.R. 808 would create a new department (headed by a cabinet-level secretary) to address, among other things, scaling back military actions, violence against animals, gun violence, bullying in schools and diversity and tolerance. Democrats, who evidently didn’t get Mark Steyn’s memo that we’re The Brokest Nation in History, want the new department to work on civil rights and labor issues also — matters already covered in multiple redundancies by other departments and agencies.
The old definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. That’s long been supplanted by spending more than $1 trillion we don’t have year after year and proposing to spend even more on government boondoggles that will do nothing but replicate the fiscal lunacies that gave us the massive debts in the first place.
Whenever it’s built, the Museum of American Decline will surely have an entire exhibit devoted solely to H.R. 808.
