The solution was to download & run Lavasoft’s “Ad-Aware” program. It’s free
(like SpyBot) and it works (unlike SpyBot). Here’s the link.
NB: Before doing the scan, which can take a while, do the updates. For some
reason the order is reversed if you just press default buttons.
