Detroit Mayor No Federal Bailout for City — ‘Yet’

When asked by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos about the possibility of a federal bailout for Detroit’s municipal government, former mayor Dave Bing said, “Not yet.” He explained, “I know the president has a lot on his plate, this is going to add tremendously to that.”

“I don’t expect one,” he explained, and “the state cannot bail out the city” either. “It’s not about just putting more money in the sitution . . . it’s about accountable government,” Snyder said. He did, however, raise the possibility of cooperative state and federal “targeted programs” to help revive Detroit’s economy, mentioning one example already, a $100 million local, state, and federal program to start taking down some of Detroit’s 78,000 abandoned buildings.
