When asked, Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick offered a lukewarm defense of Bain Capital.
Patrick told CNN:
No, they’re not a bad company and nobody is saying they are, including the president. You know, it’s a remarkable thing if you take a little step back to see how good the Republicans are at changing the subject. This is not about Bain. It’s not about private equity in general. It’s about a guy who is holding himself out to be a job creator whose record is fair game at doing that.
As Greg Pollowitz noted yesterday, the governor recently met with several banks and private-equity firms, including Bain Capital, to discuss “ways in which industry, government, and academia can partner to create jobs locally and globally.”
