‘Did they think America wouldn’t notice?’

Check out the featured ad running on the Politico homepage today. A group called the Environmental Defense Action Fund has posted a 30-second ad criticizing the House for “block[ing] limits on mercury poisoning.” Special thanks to them for advancing a dramatically pro-life argument: The video features a screenshot of a sonogram and asserts that mercury damages fetuses and children. It’s a beautiful example of the bizarre intellectual inconsistency so prevalent in our culture today over protecting babies before birth from environmental hazards. And here’s the kicker — the voiceover concludes the criticism of the House vote by questioning: “Did they think America wouldn’t notice?” Let’s hope they don’t notice they just paid for a pro-life ad.
