The Corner

I only tuned into the Diane Sawyer interview with Mel Gibson this morning.I want to make clear — as would be obvious to anyone who has read what I tend to write — that I have no interest in defending anti-Semitism and or drunken rants. That said, there was something refreshing — rare — about Mel Gibson refusing to blame his father for his own sins. Anything he does and says is his responsibility and he has to answer for it — to God, man, and Diane Sawyer as it happens when you’re a household name.

It seems like a rare cultural experience — watching someone in hollywood talk about sin and the soul and the posion of resentment and other evils…not the normal stuff of network morning tv.

Just to clarify, this display doesn’t excuse anything.
