Distasteful Is Not a Strong Enough Word

Observers of British politics may remember the strange case of Dr David Kelly, the weapons inspector (who genuinely believed Saddam possessed WMDs) who was hung out to dry by the Blair government as the source of a leak and who shortly afterwards committed suicide.  The Hutton Report of the judicial inquiry into his death was viewed largely as a whitewash (although slightly unfairly, as I said at the time).  A serious business, all told.

Now what would the Prime Minister’s wife and his former Official Spokesman do with a copy of this report?  Autograph it and put it up for auction at a party fundraiser?  Amazingly, that’s exactly what they did.
