The “diversity” candidate stuff happens all the time. The wording in the Monster post is a bit cumbersome, as most would state something to the effect that “women and minorities are encouraged to apply”.
If the company in question has any business with the Feds, they can discriminate in favor of minorities until the cows come home. The government requires contractors (of any sort) to develop and implement an Affirmative Action plan, which will often mandate a certain percentage of minority representation at each level. The Monster post is for a Controller, so my guess is that the rest of the staff at that level (upper management) are lily white members of Team Dude.
What I always wonder about is whether the “diversity” applicant gets all giddy because they have that singular requirement. “Woo hoo, I could get this job because I’m Black (or Asian, etc.)”! And when they get it, do they then wonder if that is indeed the reason? Can’t say I’d feel too comfortable in that job….
