The Corner

Do-Nothing Republicans

A sentiment I’m hearing from a lot of conservatives these days is that what’s most important over the next two years is to block bipartisan deals, for example on the budget or on Social Security. The theory seems to be that conservatives will be in a better political position in 2009. I’m not sure that’s true. Republicans could very well pick up a few seats in the House, but actually taking it back will be tough. And odds are pretty good that the next president will be less tax-phobic than President Bush.
