On the one hand, opposition to abortion has been slightly increasing, and national polls on same-sex marriage have been essentially frozen in place since late 2003. And we are now reaching the end of the second election cycle in a row in which Republicans did not elevate such social issues–which has not seemed to go well. But we seem likely to elect a president committed to repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, appointing liberal judges, and expanding taxpayer funding for abortion. Hence the title of my post, and my WaPo question today.
