Dorothy R.I.P.

I have just learned of Dorothy’s passing. What a sad, sad day. If you never met Dorothy McCartney, you are excused for not believing how good she was. Bright, cheerful, always interested in what was happening in her friends’ and colleagues’ lives, Dorothy was the very embodiment of amiability.  In all the years I knew her, I never once saw her do or say anything that was even irritable, far less unkind. She gave of herself to everyone and truly lived her faith. She spent years caring for her ailing father — always without complaint. Self-pity was alien to her. When he died, I hoped that she would at last have some time to spend on herself. Instead, she got a diagnosis of cancer. We’ve lost a rare human being much too soon.
